Twenty-four suspected hackers has been either probed or arrested by U.S. law enforcements. The FBI has tracked down various computer criminals that are responsible for over $205 million in credit/debit card fraud.
Eleven of the suspected cyber criminals are from the United States, and the thirteen others are from Europe and Asia. The suspects are all men ranging from eighteen to twenty-five years of age. Many of these men were involved in a credit card forum which distributed credit/debit card numbers for fraudulent purposes.
Two men in New York have already been arrested, and are scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday. Suspects in the huge crackdown may face up to 40 years in prison for charges ranging from conspiracy to wiring of fraudulent charges.
One of the higher profile suspect, Mir Islam-also known as “JoshTheGod”, has been charged with releasing 50,000 stolen credit card numbers. He is also reported to have admitted to helping UgNazi hack Twitter last week.
The credit card forum which the men operated in was, aptly called “Carder Profit”, created in June 2010, but it was shut down in May after the FBI crack down.
